Trent Brown, the Raiders’ high-priced right tackle, suffered a calf injury in the first series of their season opener Sunday in Carolina and was declared out for the game after just three plays.
Brown was replaced by former 49er Sam Young, a 33-year-old who was re-signed after being waived by the Raiders before NFL cutdown day.
The Raiders kept Brown out of most practices this summer for unknown reasons. This week, the Raiders listed Brown on the injury report with a calf issue. Although the severity of Brown’s injury wasn’t immediately known, his absence — for however long — would be a big deal for a team intent on getting back to the postseason.
