LA Zoo reopens after 166 days of coronavirus closure; that’s just fine with meerkats, giraffes

Born Jan. 18, 2020, Angela has lived most of her eight months on this earth in the coronavirus era.

And yet, there she was on Wednesday, the little one clinging to her mother N’djia’s back as the two took a morning stroll in the Campo Gorilla Reserve at the L.A. Zoo. It wasn’t all that different from other recent mornings. But this was the first time in 166 days that the gorillas had a public audience.

“She just missed the zoo,” said Jamie Pourroy, who with her 2-year-old Charlotte, from Lancaster, waited patiently Wednesday morning before the  gates opened.
