The Dodgers’ game against the San Francisco Giants has been postponed, the third game to be called off Wednesday on a day of protest around Major League Baseball.
Players on both teams met about two hours before the scheduled 6:45 p.m. first pitch at Oracle Park. It wasn’t until later, around 6 p.m., that the decision to not play became official.
Jacob Blake, a Black man, was shot in the back by a White police officer named Rusten Sheskey in his home town of Kenosha, Wisconsin on Sunday. The shooting was captured on video and went viral. Several NBA and MLS games were also called off Tuesday as players stepped away from the field in protest.
The Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds were the first MLB teams to decide to postpone their game Tuesday. The Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres followed. Several baseball players, including Matt Kemp, Jason Heyward, Dexter Fowler and Jack Flaherty, made the individual choice to sit out scheduled games.
Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts is scheduled to address the media tonight.
