Machine-learning sensors for edge AI platform

STMicroelectronics is making its machine learning capable motion sensors available on Qeexo's AutoML development platform. ST's machine learning capable (MLC) sensors can reduce system-level power consumption by running sensing-related algorithms. Using sensor data, Qeexo's automated machine-learning (ML) platform can accelerates the development of tinyML models for the Edge with reduced latency, power consumption, and memory footprint.  "Our work with ST has now enabled application developers to quickly build and deploy machine-learning algorithms on ST's MLC sensors without consuming MCU cycles and system resources, for an unlimited range of applications, including industrial and IoT use cases," said Sang Won Lee, CEO of Qeexo in the US. "Putting MLC in our sensors, including ...

Transforming uncertain control systems

A team at NII in Japan and the University of Waterloo have developed an automated two step formal method to make traditional control system aware of the uncertainties from its sensors for safe driverless cars ann drones Researchers in Japan and Canada have developed a formal technique to automatically transform traditional control software into models that satisfy safety requirements even when there is uncertainty in sensing the state of the environment. This is vital for autonomous systems such as drones, driverless cars and satellites. The team at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan and the University of Waterloo (Canada) developed the automated method that also generates formulas that represent the degree of uncertainty that the controller software can tolerate. Quantum Computing-as-a-Service (QCaaS) platform launches in UK

Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) has launched the UK’s first commercial Quantum Computing-as-a-Service built entirely using its proprietary technology. The startup built a superconducting quantum computer in 2018 using a 3D interconnect for 4qubits. This is now available via a private cloud service. Cloud quantum computing services are available through Amazon Bracket and the University of Bristol offered its photonic quantum computer via the cloud back in 2013. The UK government is installing a Rigetti superconducting system just outside Oxford that will also be offered via the cloud. “The launch of our QCaaS platform is not only a remarkable achievement in the history of Oxford Quantum Circuits, but is a significant milestone in unlocking the potential of quantum computing both in the UK a

Aldec launches its first RISC-V PolarFire FPGA emulation board

Aldec’s TySOM-M Series of emulation boards targets low power and high security applications with five RISC-V cores Design emulation specialist Aldec has launched its first board based around Microchip’s low power PolarFire FPGA system on chip with five 64bit RISC-V processors. The TySOM-M-MPFS250 is the first in a planned series with two connections to peripheral cards, initially using Microchip’s MPFS250T-FCG1152 and moving to larger devices when they become available. Aldec’s current boards use the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ and Zynq-7000 FPGA SoCs with ARM cores. The MPFS250T on the board has 254K of flash-based non-volatile FPGA logic elements to emulate user designs alongside five 64bit RISC-V cores. The cores are based around a five stage pipeline with a coherent memory structure and d
