Coronavirus: Mobile COVID-19 testing bus rolls into Berkeley to provide services to homeless and residents

Community members lined up in front of a 45-foot-long bus idling along Allston Way in Berkeley on Tuesday afternoon to be tested for the COVID-19 virus. With four walk-up stations, the BusTest Express lets health care workers deliver self-swab tests to patients through window kiosks.

Community members are tested for the COVID-19 virus at the BusTest Express motorcoach on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 in Berkeley, Calif. BusTest Express is able to carry out up to 500 tests a day and can be moved to any location where testing is needed. The custom-designed bus includes HEPA filters to protect medical staff and sanitation systems, along with electricity, running water and Wi-Fi. Storer Coachways, the company that developed the mobile testing bus, is working to provide vaccinations with their coaches as well.
