Georgetown coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing announced on Twitter Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Georgetown coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing revealed on Twitter Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

“I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19. This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly,” Ewing wrote in a tweet. “I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Now more than ever, I want to thank the healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines.”

Ewing is currently in isolation and under hospital care, according to his statement, which also said that no other members of the Georgetown’s men’s basketball program have tested positive for the virus.

Patrick Ewing chose to make his positive test result public to emphasize the virus can affect anyone.

“I’ll be fine,” he wrote, “and we will all get through this.”
