Boys basketball rankings: Bay Area Preps HQ Top 25

If the goal is to peak down the stretch, Bishop O’Dowd is doing just fine.

The schedule was not easy. The results were challenging. The record isn’t as sparkling as some others.

But the Dragons are growling toward the finish line, winners of 12 in a row.

And Bay Area Preps HQ voters have taken notice. With a pair of first-place and second-place votes this week, O’Dowd is back atop the rankings for the first time since early in the season.

The Dragons replaced Archbishop Riordan, the only team this season to hold the No. 1 spot for consecutive weeks.

Riordan dropped to No. 4 after a 62-51 loss at Bellarmine on Friday.

O’Dowd won league games against Piedmont and Mt. Eden before beating Renaissance Academy-Altadena 61-48 at Cerritos College in Norwalk on Saturday.

Salesian jumped one spot to No. 2 with league wins over St. Patrick-St. Vincent and El Cerrito

Bellarmine is third, followed by Riordan, Campolindo and Archbishop Mitty.

There were three newcomers this week — No. 23 Washington-Fremont, No. 24 Amador Valley and No. 25 Marin Catholic.

Votes were cast by the Bay Area Preps HQ’s staff, with first-place votes worth 25 points, second-place 24 points and on down the line.
