Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Erik ten Hag not to sign problematic, big name players for huge transfer fees.
Ten Hag is in the process of rebuilding the Red Devils and naturally the club has been linked with a whole host of players from around the world but is yet to make a signing this summer.
Much has been made of United’s failings in the transfer market since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, with the club spending around £1.2billion on players, with little to show for it in return.

As such, Saha believes United must change their ways immediately if they are to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
‘Man United have to make the right choices and sign the right players for the club,’ the former French international told Boyle Sports.
‘It’s very important not to panic buy, those in charge of signings need to make sure the philosophies at the club are right and that the players coming through the door are buying into the project.
‘It doesn’t matter how much you’re spending, it’s about quality. You don’t need to spend £100million on a player who is going to disrupt your club.
‘They don’t need to worry about being left behind by their rivals. Obviously, the big teams are going to attract big names, but every team has problems that they have to deal with and United shouldn’t be pushing the panic button.’
United have made a habit of buying big name players who have failed to justify their astronomical fees, including the likes of Angel Di Maria, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku who all left Old Trafford for huge losses.
Bruno Fernandes is the only big money, post-Ferguson signing that can be considered a success, while the jury remains out on several current United stars like Harry Maguire, Fred and Jadon Sancho, who could yet improve significantly under Ten Hag’s coaching.
Saha’s comments have come at a time when Ten Hag is trying to push through a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, who could cost around £70m, which would make him United’s fourth most expensive signing of all time.
