Warriors coach Steve Kerr tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals series against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The news of Kerr entering the league’s health and safety protocols broke just two hours before tipoff Monday night. No one else on the Warriors’ roster or staff tested positive Monday.

Assistant coach Mike Brown is serving as the acting head coach in place of Kerr.

Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant will miss Game 4 with a knee injury, while Warriors Jonathan Kuminga started Game 4, his second career playoff start.

Meanwhile, Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green was grieving for Adreian Payne, a former Michigan State basketball player, who played for the Spartans from 2010-14 died at the age of 31 after being shot in Orlando Florida early Monday morning.

The Warriors currently hold a 3-1 lead over the Grizzlies in the best-of-seven series after their 101-98 win tonight.

After being down by 11 in the third, the Warriors were able to battle back and tie the game at 77 entering the fourth. Ja Morant sank a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining to give the Grizzlies a five-point advantage. Stephen Curry led Warriors scorers with 27 points. He also had nine rebounds and eight…
  • Photos: Above the rim, a top down look at the Warriors’ dominate Game 3 win SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors responded to a terrible shooting performance in Game 2 with one of their best in Game 3 on Saturday night at Chase Center. An explosive third quarter, led by Stephen Curry, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson, paved the way for the Warriors’ dominant 142-112 rout of the Grizzlies, which gave Golden State a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinals series. After shooting a dismal 18.4% from 3-point range in Tuesday night’s loss, the Warriors…

  • Kurtenbach: Three overshadowed keys to the Warriors’ Game 3 win SAN FRANCISCO — Oh yeah, there was a basketball game Saturday night. Amid all the hoopla and nonsense surrounding Ja Morant’s unfortunate injury, the Warriors put 142 points on the Grizzlies to claim a 2-1 lead in the teams’ Western Conference Semifinals series. Here are three things that I think proved critical to the Warriors’ win: Paint Domination While the series might have relocated to the Bay for Game 3, the Warriors won Saturday by going directly into the Grizzlies’…

  • Kurtenbach: One game? Dillon Brooks deserved a longer suspension for his bush-league foul on Gary Payton II The NBA announced Thursday that Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks has been suspended for Game 3 of Memphis and Golden State’s Western Conference semifinal series for breaking Gary Payton II’s elbow on Tuesday. It’s not enough. He deserved to miss the rest of the series. Brooks’ bush-league hack on Gary Payton II’s head as the Warrior guard went for a layup early in Game 2 Tuesday led to Payton breaking his elbow, in all likelihood ending his postseason. It wasn’t an…
  • Warriors coach Steve Kerr on Gary Payton II injury: ‘Dillon Brooks broke the code’ MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Coach Steve Kerr accused Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks of breaking “the code” after he injured Gary Payton II by attacking him from behind as the Warriors guard attempted a layup Wednesday night during Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Payton suffered a fracture to his left elbow and is scheduled to undergo an MRI Thursday to determine the severity of the injury, the Warriors said after the Grizzlies beat them 106-101 in what was the most…
  • Watch Ja Morant, Jordan Poole shake hands before Grizzlies-Warriors Game 4 Memphis point guard Ja Morant alleged that Jordan Poole “broke the code” in Game 3 by grabbing his knee when going for a loose ball. Morant left that game with a still undisclosed knee injury. Morant deleted the tweet where he claimed the impropriety, and before Game 4 at Chase Center Monday, the 22-year-old guards shoot hands on the court. TNT’s camera’s caught the exchange, which was quick but nevertheless significant given the intensity of this second-round series. Morant, a…
  • Like Warriors’ Draymond Green in Game 1, Grizzlies’ Dillion Brooks ejected for flagrant two foul in Game 2 The Warriors felt like it was going to be a physical Game 2 in Memphis against the Grizzlies. They were more right than they even expected to be — and may have lost a key player in the process. Just like Draymond Green in Game 1, Memphis’ Dillon Brooks was ejected in Game 2 for a flagrant two foul — that was, at least for a moment, initially ruled a common foul on the floor. Brooks was given a flagrant…
  • Otto Porter Jr. emerging as Warriors’ dark horse in series vs. Grizzlies SAN FRANCISCO — Being from St. Louis, Otto Porter Jr. grew up going to Grizzlies games. So to be back in Memphis, Tennessee, for the first two games of the Warriors’ Western Conference semifinals series was special for the nine-year veteran. “It’s kind of surreal because now my family can watch me play in the arena that we’ve been going to all these years,” Porter said. “Just a great environment, like a dream come true for me.” But Porter’s once…
